The moon—with its unending cycles that ebb from dark to light—is a longtime enchantress. For some, it represents the flow of time and eternity; for others the phases of human life. In the tarot, it is a symbol of the unconscious realm and the unknown, of dreams and—as Mark Twain so famously wrote—the shadow self: “Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.”
